NORD Holding sells Paper + Design to Hannover Finanz

Investment program set to continue in Wolkenstein, Saxony
NORD Holding Unternehmensbeteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, Hanover, has sold its majority stake in the Wolkenstein-based company Paper+Design GmbH. The purchaser is Hannover Finanz, a private equity company also based in Hanover. Paper+Design is regarded as a creative force for decorative table setting products. Its range includes napkins, table cloths, candles and other accessories. After NORD Holding acquired its stake in 2005 the company's sales increased by 40 % to current turnover of € 36 mil. The basis for this was, amongst other things, investment funding totaling € 20 mil. for the period 2005 to 2010.
Paper + Design was founded in 1999 by the Oertel and Nöthen families. In 2005 Henry Oertel initiated the succession process on the shareholder's side by selling a majority stake to NORD Holding. Both founding families however retained a minority stake until 2008, thereby ensuring the necessary continuity during the company transition. "We are especially grateful to Henry Oertel for continuing to provide support and advice to the company, even today" stated Thomas Bagusch, managing director of NORD Holding. "This ensures that know-how is transferred in a stable process to the next generation".
The decision to accept Hannover Finanz as the purchaser was also underpinned by the fact that the new equity partner wanted to continue to support the investment program initiated in the second quarter of 2010 at the Wolkenstein location with a bolster of € 8 mil. and therefore to lead Paper+ Design into a second successful decade of growth. With more than 40 years' experience NORD Holding is one of the leading private equity companies serving the high end medium-sized sector. Its activities focus on the structure and funding of succession profiles as well as spin-offs of medium-sized business units. "We are not solely investors; we also want to play an active role in ensuring that the company is better positioned for the future", stated Bagusch, explaining the company's philosophy.
